El Cafecito Bogotá, Carrera 6 #34-70, Tel #2858 308, bogota@cafecito.net

In Quito the capital city, El Cafecito is located in “La Mariscal” the main centre for shops, language schools, dance clubs, banks, embassies, and internet cafes.

A 30 min. walk or a short trole ride takes you to “el centro” (the old city) where you could enjoy a stroll through colonial streets with its many museums, churches and spanish style plazas.

Set at the foot of the volcano Pichincha (4800 meters), in the province of the same name, Quito boast spectacular views of volcanos and other mountains. This old Incaican Capital serves as a starting point and a base for many, while travelling in Ecuador and Latin America.

Within a few hours from Quito one could be surfing in the Pacific Ocean, climbing the world’s highest active snow cap volcano, trekking (or kayaking) through the Amazon jungle, or shopping in one of Ecuador’s famous pre-incaican village markets.

Our café, a popular spot for both, locals and foreigners of all levels. Offering wide variety of breakfasts, vegetarian meals, excellent homemade desserts, selection of coffee/tea drinks and “happy hour” from 6pm to 7pm. In the daytime enjoy a nice break in our garden and at night come in and have a seat for a light meal by the fire in a candlelit atmosphere.

Some helpful hints:
Taxis from the airport, or main bus station (terminal terrestre), should not cost more than $4-5 to El Cafecito.

Bus ride Guayaquil - Quito we recommend “Trans Ecuador”. From their Quito station on Juan Leon Mera it’s a $1 taxi ride to the Cafecito.

Legal taxis should have orange plates and use a taximeter (taximetro) until 10 pm, after which you will need to bargain with the drivers.

Arriving to Quito airport during the day with little baggage, you can use the bus system. Walk out of the airport to the street Ave. Rio Amazonas and take the bus marked "Juan Leon Mera" going south. In about 25-30min you should pass the Marriott Hotel on left side. Shortly after that the bus should turn onto Juan Leon Mera, 5 blocks is Luis Cordero (one block south of Colon). Walk one street to the left, we’re at the corner of Luis Cordero and Reina Victoria.

Although only 22 km from the equator, Quito is at an altitude of 2820 meters. Making for cold nights about 10 to 5 degrees. So warm clothing is a necessity, however sweaters can be had at a very cheap price in the popular Otavalo market.

To accustom yourself to altitude, it is recommended to drink a lot of water and rest during the first 48 hours.

For prices and/or selection, it is almost always better to book spanish schools and tours such as Galapagos, Jungle, Climbing etc. here in Quito.

Most things you might need can be purchased in Quito, but you will pay a little bit more than at home.

Visa and Master card are widely accepted for cash advances and purchases. Some places charge up to 10% surcharge when using your card.

Although most café and restaurants add a extra 10% to the bill for services, your waiter will always be very appreciative of an additional tip.

There is a $25 airport tax to leave from Ecuador, payable only in cash.
